The Tech Support Corner

Saturday, April 14th, 2007

Hi all,

I’m a little slow on the uptake with Lockergnome.com.  Life became busy and I wasn’t able to keep up-to-date with Chris and Lockergnome in its transition from newsletter/rss to a multiblog/multiuser system.  Once I figured out what happened, I signed up for my own blog on Lockergnome.com.

The Tech Support Corner - Providing Support for the Every Day User

I’ll be providing tips, support ideas, and answers to questions that come up in the Every Day Computer User’s life.  I’ll do my best to answer in regular ol’ plain English and not a whole lot of techno-geek speak.

I’ll be doing my first post later today on "To Vista or Not To Vista"; should you purchase Vista if you have XP or just wait for a new computer, and other insights.

Take care. –Wil

DreamDinners… a new great idea for busy people

Saturday, April 8th, 2006

A few weeks ago my wife was invited to a “sneak peak” for a new business that came into town.  It is called Dream Dinners.  The idea is that you come and prepare either 6 or 12 meals ahead of time and store them in gallon size freezer bags.  Then when you are ready to eat you just pull it from the freezer, thaw, and follow the directions on the label.

For those of us who have crazy schedules (or work a long way from home) this could be a great way to (1) eat healthier and (2) eat more meals with the family at home.  My family schedule is really crazy during the week and with my arrival time from home extremely variable we wanted to see how this would pan out for us.

So, this afternoon we went, paid our money for 12 meals and went to town.  My first impression was, “This looks like a TV food show.”  There were six stations that allowed you to prepare 2-3 different meals.   Recipes are posted on laminated cards which are easily read.  The station is set up similiar to a salad bar.  Various containers are filled with the ingredients for your meal, measuring spoons and cups are provided as well as spatulas, gallon sized freezer bags, aluminum cooking pan, etc.  Everything you would need for preparing a meal way ahead of time.

It took us an hour and a half to complete 12 meals.  They now sit in their bags or 9×13 aluminum pans in our deep freezer.  Tonight we pulled out the Meatball Hogie meal.  Tomorrow I will let you know how the prep, cooking and taste went.  Sneak Peak: There is only enough left for one sandwich.

Over the next few weeks I will provide updates as we eat the prepared Dream Dinner meals.  I’ll let you know how they taste, how they cook, how the instructions work out, etc.  If these work out as good as my wife and I foresee I can see using Dream Dinners often.

Gmail adds Contact Groups

Thursday, December 15th, 2005

I use Gmail as my primary email account.  It allows me to read and respond to all my email no matter where I am. I do not have to worry about having a full email client or what to do about the email that is downloaded.

The programmers of Gmail added a new feature that allows you to group contacts just like making a distribution or mailing list in full email clients.  Now I can just select "Family" to email my whole family instead of typing all nine names to pick them.  Very much a time saver.

Thank you Google!!!!

Who said I don’t like change :)

Will’s Place has changed once again.  I was having a lot of problems getting the Mambo Server software to work.  So I thought I would give WordPress.org a try.  I am already using a blog on WordPress.com for my experiences with Flock.  i will probably end up moving that blog to here though.

You can still reach my old Will’s Place Blog for archival purposes.  I have a couple of Linux related articles that are still getting hits.  I’ll move this link over ot the side bar in a bit.

Enjoy.
