Airport Delays
Yes, it is Christmas Evening and I’m writing a blog post from the airport. Last night we attempted to leave Fresno Yosemite International Airport, but were met with extremely dense fog.
Yes, it is Christmas Evening and I’m writing a blog post from the airport. Last night we attempted to leave Fresno Yosemite International Airport, but were met with extremely dense fog.
We arrived at the airport shortly before 9:00 PM for a 10:00 PM flight to Las Vegas. Yes, I know we cut it short, but it ended up for the better.
At about 9:15 PM, I overheard two gentlemen talking about the possibility of the flight being canceled. I didn’t hear them clearly so I walked up and asked what he heard about the flight. The pilots would make a decision at 9:30 PM about taking off or not. It didn’t seem to matter either way as there wasn’t even a plane on the ground for us yet. So, at about 9:30 PM the desk attendant announced that the flight was canceled and there were no more flights that night.
Fortunately, we were next in line. We were immediately rescheduled for a 2:00 PM flight the next day (today) and upgraded to First Class all the way out to Minneapolis. This was the first experience in First Class for my family (wife, daughter and myself) and I highly recommend the experience to everyone.
So, here we sit with an almost four hour layover in the Las Vegas airport. No, I’m not gambling. I don’t care for slot machines. There doesn’t seem to be any other sort of gambling around.
We arrive in Minneapolis at Midnight tonight (Dec. 26) and my wife’s brother is going to pick us up. Then we drive three and a half hours to my mother-in-law’s house. Sometime on Dec. 26 we will have Christmas, but, well, I’m not sure when.
Our daughter did have a bit of Christmas this morning. Apparently her Christmas Elf, Fred (another story for another time), heard about our flight being canceled. He and Santa worked it out so Hannah had some of her stocking gifts and one present under our tree at home. Santa left a really awesome letter for Hannah saying how sad he was that she missed her flight, but that he and Fred wanted to make sure she had something to open on Christmas Day.
So, in a few hours we will be driving through the frozen countryside of Wisconsin. How come I keep hearing this song in my head….
"Oh the weather outside is frightful…"
I chuckle thinking about how cold it will be out at the house. All my friends and coworkers think we’re crazy to go back to Wisconsin in the winter. I keep telling them I like the cold weather, but they think I’m still crazy.
Merry Christmas everyone. Have a great Christmas Evening!
