The Source Software Development Kit, for those of you who’ve never clicked the Tools tab in Steam, contains everything you’d need to make a mod, except for personal ambition. It has everything from the infamous Valve Hammer Editor to Face Posers and Model Viewers. At the moment, to gain access to the Source SDK you have to purchase a Source based game such as Half Life 2, or as the official website states, Team Fortress 2. Which is of course now free.

I recently downloaded TF2 when I noticed that it was free. This is a fun game and I am thoroughly enjoying it. Some mods are even available for it on different servers in the In-Game Server Browser.

I recently started using TeamSpeak3 to connect with some other computer techs on the internet. TeamSpeak is a voice chat system similar to what Skype does. One feature that was making it hard for me to hear people was the On Join and On Disconnect sounds that would occur when someone joined or left the channel. I did some testing and found the settings to disable them.

Click Settings > Options

Click Notifications on the left (Second from the bottom)

Expand the Client option on the right.

Expand Connection.

Under Connection you will see CONNECTED and DISCONNECTED. Uncheck “Current Channel…” in both sections.

Click OK

John Wilkerson has started a challenge called the Geek Advent Challenge. In order to help him write more on his blogs, he has offered a challenge to write daily posts for the 25 days of advent. I only became aware of this challenge on Dec. 4 so I have to create a few more posts to catch up.

I think I will the rules he set out.

Posts must be at least ~150 words (video posts excluded — see below)

Posts can be drafted and scheduled as needed

Posts are not restricted to “geek” topics

Video posts count but only 1 per week allowed

Not to difficult except for the fact that the only time I have to write is just before bed. I also added one level of complexity. I’m also doing this challenge on my after hours computer site at Will The Computer Guy.com. On that site I will try to keep the posts tech related so as to keep with the theme of the site. Computer repair, tech news, tech ideas, etc.

Used with Permission from http://worldsgreatestmarketer.wordpress.com

Have you ever wondered how you get started with Internet Marketing? Well, you could shell out $2000+ for any of the online courses. Or you could search for some of the $47 ebooks and hope that it will help you out since you can’t skim through it ahead of purchasing.

Or you could look for some of the master Internet Marketers and find out what they are doing.

In recent months I signed up for any list that any Internet Marketer had on their site. I wanted as much information about this process as possible. One interesting fact though. Most of these Internet Marketers seem to be selling products that teach you how to do it, but, as with the ebooks, don’t let you see a bit of how and what it is they do. There are a few exceptions. Today I’ll talk about one that I followed around the past couple of weeks.

Howie Schwartz, who is most known for his Howie’s Apprentice program.

In July 2009, Howie created a challenge called IM Remarkable. It is hosted at http://www.imremarkable.com. Sign up on the list and you will get access to a PDF on Niche Sites. Make a comment on the very first post (at the bottom of the main blog page) and you will get an addition 10 niche sites in a nice, and neat PDF.

The IM Remarkable Challenge is what I am going to start this weekend coming. In 10 days, Howie’s program had people doing crazy Internet Marketing. Again, this is FREE (as in free soda) information to you. He is giving tips on Keyword Research, Narrowing Your Market, and other tips to get you started.

I gain nothing from having you sign up here as the main program is currently closed. So go for it. Try out Howie’s IM Remarkable, and leave a comment here if you start it. It doesn’t matter what year you find this post. I found Howie’s post almost a year past when he started the program.

Getting through life requires several things from us. Determination, Concentration, Perseverance. Times come that test us in those three areas and many others. How do we make it through? Some just have that natural “Get It Done” attitude. Others need goals. I think that no matter how you do it, there are always Goals.

I’m learning Internet and Affiliate Marketing to make some extra money. In all the material I’ve read, listened to and watched they all say the same thing.

Set Goals. Make Them Realistic.

Setting Goals
This is usually the easy part. I’ve never met anyone who couldn’t set a goal. Even if it was a simple “I wish I had <insert item here>”. The problem with the “I Wish…” goal it isn’t usually realistic or attainable.

I used to say “I’m going to have a 10,000 square foot house.” Why? Because I couldn’t imagine living in such a huge house. And, if I could attain that house then all my financial worries would be gone. In and of itself there isn’t anything wrong with a goal that big as long as there are smaller milestones along the way. The first goal could be to attain a 2,000 square foot house. But, for some, that might still be too big. Let’s look at some ways to get that 2,000 square foot house.

How much would the mortgage be on the 2,000 sq. ft. house? Quick research in my area shows a house this size would go for about $180,000 at this time. An online mortgage calculator estimates a monthly mortgage at about $1,300.

The next question is can you pay that mortgage now or will you need to earn more money? If you’re like me, you would need to make more money. This will either come from a raise in your primary job, getting a part-time job to earn more money, or (as in my case with Internet Marketing) finding something completely different to make money. The next goal could be to earn an extra $500 a month to save up, or add to your current income. Again make it attainable and realistic.

Make Them Realistic
Goals don’t do much good if you can’t meet them. Setting Realistic Goals will help you meet them.

With our $1,300 a month mortgage, we need to set an initial goal of $500 per month through some means of additional income. I’m working on Internet and Affiliate Marketing. My first long term goal is to make $500 a month by the end of August. My first short term goal to meet the $500 goal is to make $100 by the end of June. Then $300 by the end of July.

Everyone I have talked with in Internet Marketing has said those goals are realistic and attainable. One other aspect with realistic goals that many people don’t talk about is that you may need to adjust them.

If I make it to the end of June and haven’t made $100, do I adjust it lower for July? Probably not. I’ll keep heading for the $300 in July. Again, the object is to make attainable milestones that you can meet.

Putting It All Together
To get to any big goal, you need smaller goals that are realistic and attainable. Don’t be afraid to start small and adjust to bigger goals. Also, don’t be afraid to adjust down a small bit if needed.

Make sure all goals are realistic. Trying to earn $10,000 in your first month of anything will only set you up for failure. Make sure you can meet the goals. Then adjust upward as you meet them.
